I could not agree more with the article, warnings for everything and it drives me mad! it's almost as though it's totally geared towards new apple consumers however for long term users it just becomes frustrating. Stop warning me for virtually everything!!! do you want to close safari? do you want to empty trash? do you want to open application? do you want to save? arghhh

@ TWN77

About a year ago Apple's Chief software technology officer Avie Tevanian - basically the man behind OS X - left the company: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/03/28/apple_softtware_head_quits/

At the time I found it a bit strange that someone like him would go just months before the new OS was going to be released. As you point out Leopard was delayed - after Tevanian had left...

Now in the article above the reason he gave for leaving Apple is to "take some personal time." Looking back this sounds very much like corporate speak and could be read as "I give up - this is going to be a mess and Steve and I can't agree on anything".

Been a mac user for years and I still can't believe the direction apple has taken with this new OS. As others have pointed out, it seems like a rush job (never mind the fact that they had 18 months vs 12 for Tiger) but the incredible lack of attention to detail and overthinking of so many basic features is what's really mind blowing. Some of the under the hood improvements are noteworthy but the graphical interface changes are hideous and I know quite a few long time users who are very displeased with this release.

Thanks for your comments!

@ Stephen Worth: I just checked again and it looks like my beta version of Firefox 3 changed the file extensions to .jfif when I drag/droped the ASIFA-Hollywood Animation Archive JPEG files to my desktop (it works as it should in FF 2)!

@ Gasten: good to hear that Ubuntu reduces fan noise problems on your PC hardware - this motivates me to give a dual boot set-up another try once (if?) I'll up/downgrade to Panther within the next couple of weeks!

Well, if the fans are a software problem, try running ubuntu on the live cd and see how that works. Then you wont have to buy new hardware (if you dont want to =)

I've noticed that my fans and harddrive are much louder on Vista compared to when I'm booted into ubuntu. Maybe that's true for macs too?

The scans on the ASIFA-Hollywood Animation Archive are JPEG files with the .jpg suffix. I don't know how you got a JFIF on the end. Change it back to .jpg and it should work fine.

See ya
